Jacob van Geel and Sam Muirhead, (from Canada West Volleyball Club), had an awesome weekend competing in Medicine Hat in the Alberta Winter Games. After an intense weekend they ended up taking home the silver medal.
They went undefeated until the gold medal match. Here they met their match, being defeated in the final by the Zone 6 Edmonton representative, Panda volleyball club. This team caught Calgary off guard with their fast offense, running many plays from the middle and moving the attack around unpredictably. It was a nail biter, being anyone's game until the final point. The match went to three games, with Calgary losing a close one in the third, 11-15.
The boys played extremely well all weekend. Jacob was known for his consistent serving, scoring several aces over the weekend, (too many to count), not missing a single serve all weekend and his consistent all around play. Sam stood out due to his awesome blocking.
What we can be most proud of is how well they maintained their composure on the court in the tight final game against the Panda's. Comments from bystanders were "what a classy team Calgary was", so our Canada West boys represented the Club well.
