Zachary van Geel and Angelo Bodoso from the Canada West 14U boys took home gold in the Volleyball Alberta Premier 2 in Sylvan Lake this past weekend.  The boys were undefeated in their pool play making for an easy cross over game.  In the semi's they had a hard fought match that went to three.

After losing the first game 19-21, they came from behind fighting hard to win by only two points in the second game setting up a nail biting third set which ended with them coming out on top by only two points.  Set point went back and forth quite a few times but this time ending up in their favour.

Their gold medal match was also hard fought playing a very strong Canuck team, but the scores were not quite as close.   Angelo's "crushing hits" and Zach's amazing defense and smart shots were, in the end, too much for the challengers leaving Angelo and Zachary with a  straight set gold medal win.  They finished the whole tournament undefeated.

Other highlights this weekend were Jacob van Geel from Canada West 15U's bringing home a bronze medal with his partner, Callum Campbell.  They were an outstanding team with both being big hitters who can also move well on the court.   When these two dynamic players were on their hitting game they were unstoppable.  After going undefeated in pool play they had a bye into the semi where they lost a tough game to the Edmonton NAVC team, (from the National gold medal team), by only two points.

Going into the bronze medal match after this tough loss wasn't easy but they ended up dominating & winning two straight with the second game finishing 21 to 8.   Jacob and Callum both passed extremely well for two tall players and were also awesome on defense both making spectacular saves but it was their unstoppable hitting in this match that made this bronze medal a clean sweep.
