Good Luck in Provincials

In the past two Volleyball Alberta tournaments the team has done very well. In VA 2 the team had a disappointing loss in their crossover match and ended up 10th. In VA 3 the boys seemed to learn their lesson winning a very hard fought crossover match  against St. Paul Rage. They then went on to beat Canuck Red, but then could not defeat Canuck Black.

The team has had two top 4 finishes in the three VA tournaments and is looking forward to provincials at the end April.

Check out more of the pictures from VA 3 in the photos section.

Congratulation on a terrific first VA #1 tournament silver medal. The team had a great weekend.

Silver Medal VA #1

VA #1

Congratulations to the team on a terrific weekend winning a silver medal. The team played consistently throughout the weekend against some very tough competition.  After losing their first game versus FOG the team went undefeated until they met up with a very good Canuck-Red team in the gold medal match.  Along the way the boys played in some really tight hard fought matches against: TSVC, Nooks, Hitmen, Canuck-Black, & FOG (rematch). It is obvious from this past weekend that there many excellent teams from all over Alberta and every tournament will be a challenge.

Recent 16U Boys News

We are happy to announce Scott is back and in a head coaching role!

Scott brings a wealth of experience as he has been playing and coaching volleyball for over 30+ years. He started his playing career at the University of Calgary whereupon his last year he was a starting power hitter on the 1988 undefeated CIS National champions. In his four years of playing Scott played all positions except for setter, the knowledge of playing each position has given him invaluable knowledge for playing/coaching each position. After graduating university Scott continued to play indoor volleyball with the men’s Canuck volleyball club team as well as played beach volleyball in numerous AVA & BCVA tournaments.

The past 28 years Scott has been a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education, 7 years in Junior High, and 21 years in high school. Within that time his boys/girls teams have won 2 city championships, qualified for provincial championships over 10 times, and has had many of his players go on to play at the college/university level. The past two years Scott has co-coached the 14U & 15U boys teams.

Scott says his strongest asset is his ability to break down the technical skills of volleyball. As he did not start playing volleyball until he was in University he did not have the fundamental skills that his teammates had from playing high school and club. This resulted in paying particular attention to details, breaking down his own weaknesses/shortcomings and then dedicating himself to improve. Greg Ryan, Scott’s coach at U of Calgary, said that he planned on cutting Scott after his first year but upon seeing how much he had improved in the off-season he could not eliminate someone that was that dedicated to the sport. Andrea Bell was part of Scott’s city championship 2003 team then went on to play at St. Francis Xavier. Andrea has said “Scott was the best coach that I ever had, none of my University coaches came close to his knowledge and advice”.

In the past 10 years Scott has been teaching Sports Performance which has given him more knowledge in the areas Sport Psychology, Nutrition, Weight/Speed/Quickness/Agility training, Biomechanics,
